Red Carpet Drama

Get the Frock Outta Here!

It’s been done time and time again: An unsuspecting celebrity chooses what is bound to be the next textile masterpiece, only to become the butt of endless jokes and the newest victim of media mockery.  While I, like most tabloid junkies, find it all thoroughly amusing, I can’t help but wonder, “WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?”  Obviously, there are the celebs who go by the “bad press is still good press” rule, and don’t mind all the trash talk because, after all, it is still TALK.  But, what about the other fashion-deficient celebrities, like Gabourey Sidibe?  How could she not have known that cheetah monstrosity she wore to the Golden Globes was fashion suicide?  I guess they never know until they make their fateful stroll down the red carpet.  The Oscar red carpet is often referred to as the “most famous runway in the world.”  In light of this year’s Oscars, I decided to post some memorable and still talked about dresses from Red Carpet’s Past…

Jlo left little to the imagination and caused quite a stir when she sashayed down the red carpet in Versace’s “Jungle Dress.”

Cher put this semi-nude disaster, along with it’s basket hat, up for sale in 2006.  Why she held on to it that long will remain a mystery.

If I was going to promote my album release date, I certainly wouldn’t use a house dress and a hideous looking shower cap.  Just sayin.

Lady Gaga’s Infamous Meat Dress at The VMAS 2010

Aside from the fact that she is wearing animal carcass, I have to give designer Franc Fernandez his due.  It took a lot of skill to mold the meat to her body like that.  Later, in an interview, she said her message was to tell the world that she is not “a piece of meat.”

London Street Fashion

Neutral shades and a fur vest make this a classically chic ensemble.  Simple?  Yes.  Boring?  NEVER!

Wide-leg trousers and an oversized blazer, paired with chunky shoes gives a masculine, yet FIERCE femme look.

My cardinal rule: Better to be under-dressed than OVER-dressed.  You can never go wrong with skinny jeans and heels. Tight leather pants and a faux fur jacket—Two of this season’s MUST HAVES.  Her slouchy demeanor gives her extra cool points!

This girl is definitely “in the know.” Long skirts, layers, and clogs are expected to be HUGE next season. Preppy girl with an edge: Brushed gold sweater and a chestnut handbag topped with a black leather skirt would make any girl the envy of her sorority.

A casual outfit of leggings and a shirt made fierce with ankle boots, a leather jacket, and a handbag. Skinny black pants and a leather accented trench makes this outfit chic, with subtle edge.

“RAW” Determination

RAW

A year ago, I decided to go Vegan, and it was the best decision I have ever made for myself.  Now that I have mastered the art of Vegan cuisine, I decided to take it to the next level: RAW.  First of all, I know you’re reading this and asking yourself, “What does this have to do with fashion?”  Well, I’ll tell you: I want to look amazing in my clothes, feel confident in my bathing suit, and strut my stuff like there’s no tomorrow!  Since this is my first RAW meal EVER, I wanted to share it with my fierce fashion followers!  Tonight, I made lasagna, which I got from “Raw Food Made Easy For 1 or 2 People,” by Jennifer Cornbleet.   Then, for a side-dish, I made kidney beans drizzled with Italian dressing.  It is actually really, REALLY good!

Over the past year, my husband has welcomed my vegan concoctions with open arms and ate whatever I put in front of him.  I know this style of eating can be a little extreme for some, so I wasn’t sure how he would like this.  Now that I’ve tasted just how good raw-eating can be, I’m sure he’ll be as pleasantly surprised as I am! Here is my first meal…

Jasper Conran

Autumn/Winter Collection

Feast your eyes on this delicious display, my fierce fashion followers! Today, I give you the latest and greatest from Jasper Conran, an English born designer who debuted his first collection in 1979 at the tender age of 19! The first thing I noticed about this collection was the “urban” vibe it projected.  The pieces were sleek, edgy, and dark.  Automatically, my mind shifted to New York City, swanky clubs, and potent cocktails.  Not only did his collection have edge, but the geometric designs of some of his dresses appealed to my “artsy” side, and made me wonder what kind of paintings he has hanging on the walls of his home.  Conran’s Autumn/Winter collection is both creative and confident, and won me over.  Here are a few looks from his collection…

Burberry Prorsum Fall 2011 Collection

Designer Christopher Bailey made it very obvious as to what was the showcase of this Fall’s collection: COATS!  Displaying a stunning array of military, fur, and trench styles, each piece was the center of each look, paired with black tights or skinny trousers, and accented with a belt, which added polish and completion.  Every outfit was wearable and there is something in this collection to satisfy everyone’s taste.  Christopher Bailey’s 2011 Fall collection was a fashion triumph, and a wonderful way to mark 10th year with Burberry Prorsum!  Here are a few tantalizing images from his collection…

The message from this collection screams loud and clear: Do not plan your outfit and throw on a coat, plan your outfit AROUND your coat!  Outerwear is no longer something just to keep you warm.  It is an integral part of the outfit and should be chosen with the utmost style and flair.

The Governess of Glam, the one and only, Lady Gaga is debuting the March 2011 issue of American Vogue!  In light of the recent Kristen Stewart debacle, I cannot think of a better course of redemption!  I don’t know about you, my fierce fashion followers, but I am counting down the days til I can (finally) get my eager hands on this month’s issue!  In the mean time, here’s a little something to tide you over….

Gaga’s bob and bleached eyebrows mimic her iconic image: Blunt and masculine-femme, and accentuates her natural rawness.  Whether it be poised in a couture feathered gown or striking a James Deanesque pose, she is comfortable in her skin.  Her confidence is deafening and screams out in every image in such a way that it makes me assume her spread would have been just as effective wearing a burlap sack.  Her self-assured poise is something that cannot be taught.  You either have it or you don’t, and Gaga definitely has IT.

So, tell me, my fierce fashion followers…Will you be rushing to the stands to grab next month’s Issue of Vogue?

Burberry Prorsum

Burberry Prorsum

Good news to all those who love black leather pants: Leave em in your closet and out of the storage bin the Spring.  With the right pieces, they can be worn year-round!  Take some inspiration from Burbery Prorsum and brighten up the black with bold pieces.  Spring isn’t all about floral.  Give yourself an edge this season with black leather and bright color.

Carolina Herrera

Carolina Hererra

Carolina Hererra…the epitomy of simple elegance and classic sophistication.  This buttery lavendar ensemble reminds me of a modern day Jackie O.  What is there not to love?

With skinny jeans/pants becoming the norm, wide leg pants have made their way back onto the fashion scene. I am absolutely in LOVE with palazzo pants and cannot wait to flaunt them this Spring.  To balance the width of the legs, they are best worn with a form-fitting top and a pair of heels.  With them being not only stylish AND comfortable, how can you not own a pair…or 10?

So, tell me, my fierce fashion followers…What look do you picture yourself wearing this Spring?
