The lawsuit heard around the fashion world is in full force. With an array of red-soled YSL pumps in hand, lawyer David Bernstein went straight for the jugular, claiming he held the definitive proof that YSL came out with red-soled shoes wayyy before 2008 when Louboutin claimed it as his trademark. Bernstein also managed to invoke a few chuckles from the audience when mentioning Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz wearing red-soled shoes.
Who should come out on top, the legendary Yves Saint Laurent, with his previous record of red-soled shoes from stiletto past or Christain Louboutin, the “sex in a stiletto” designer who made red soles the “sole” of his creations? Stay tuned and…

Something Borrowed
Gaga Goes Gaga Over Fashion Student’s Design
**Story and images from: metro.co.uk***
When aspiring designer Rebecca Short submitted her creation for her University’s Graduate Fashion Week, the last place she thought it would end up was on Lady Gaga! Gaga’s stylist happened to be at the show and requested a few different outfits, including Miss Short’s. Rebecca granted her request, figuring that the chances of her dress ending up on the infamous Gaga were slim to none. In her case, it’s good to be wrong! Gaga “grand entranced” her design (and hairdo) at a press release in Singapore. A very thrilled Rebecca Short remarked, “She had styled it completely different from how I had done it.” Would we expect anything less?

All Grown Up
Frances Bean Cobain
***Images from socialitelife.com***
Aside from the sporadic pictures we’ve seen throughout her childhood/adolescence, Frances Bean Cobain has pretty much kept herself under the radar. With a face as gorgeous as this, I can’t imagine why! Her debuting pictorial, shot by world renown Heidi Slimane, depicts a sexy, edgy woman who has come into her own! With eyes as intense as her father’s and lips as pouty as her mother’s, Frances Bean has left the fashion “powers- that-be” salivating for more! Will Frances Bean be the industry’s newest “It” girl? McQueen Reigns Over NYC
McQueen Reigns Over NYC
Alexander McQueen’s Savage Beauty exhibit has now drawn to an end, and what an epic 3 months it was. Not only was it the number 1 exhibit for the Costume Institute, it was the eighth most popular exhibition since the opening of the Met 141 years ago! For the lucky 661,509 people who visited, they once again got to immerse themselves in the raw, mystical, sexy, and dark world of Alexander McQueen, a gifted visionary who was not afraid to push the boundaries of art and fashion. In no particular order, here are my 6 favorite pieces from his collections. Narrowing it down to 6 was a very tasking job, but I managed to do it! |
Spring/Summer 2001 Ostrich feathers and glass medical slides painted red. | Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 Silk and tulle with resin antlers. |
Spring/Summer 2001 Razor clam shells | Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 Black duck feathers |
Autumn/Winter 2006-2007 Pheasant feathers | Spring/Summer 2003 Silk organza, georgette, and chiffon |

Alexander McQueen’s time on earth was a grain of sand on the surface of time, but his impact will carry us for years to come. He will be greatly missed, and I don’t think we’ll never be able to gaze upon the latest Haute Couture creations without wondering what his latest vision would have been. He was an artist with a unique outlook on beauty. It is hard to lose some of the world’s best talent. When it comes to coming to terms with death, no one puts it better than Alexander McQueen himself:
“It is important to look at death because it is a part of life. It is a sad thing, melancholy but romantic at the same time. It is the end of a cycle—everything has to end. The cycle of life is positive because it gives room for new things.”

How Young is too Young?
Drawing the Line: How Young is too Young?
Such seduction; appealing allure; enticingly enigmatic. What’s wrong with this picture? Oh yeah…she’s 10-YEARS-OLD! The recent pictorial spread of Thylane Lena-Rose in French Vogue has ignited the latest hell-fire in the fashion industry. Thylane, decked in stilettos and sultry pose, has caused outrage in all media outlets and spawned accusations of exploitation and “child sexualization (opposingviews.com).”
In order to consider this from all points of view, I must play the devil’s advocate: Possibly, with the industry’s unwavering standards getting slimmer and slimmer (literally), resulting in new weight regulations, it seems only natural for the industry to turn to the next best alternative: children. Most runway models weigh almost as much as a child anyway, so why not?
On the other hand, Europe has always been the leading forefront on the fashion horizon. Without France, we never would have been gifted the genius of Coco Chanel. She revolutionized the way women everywhere wore clothing and changed the core of fashion forever. Paris is the beating heart of this industry, and every year, people from all over the world flock to see what they will be wearing next season; however, is there a boundary, and if so, where do spectators draw the line? With some of the faces gracing designer labels as young as 13-years-old (dailymail.co.uk), could this be the start of a new era? Will 10 be the new 20 and 20 be the new 40? Could the saying “gone with the old and in with the new” be replaced by “gone with the young and in with the younger?”
NBC’s headlines were splashed with Thylane’s pictures, with some American’s refering to them as child pornography. Is this any worse than an episode of Toddlers & Tiaras with children around Thylane’s age and younger, parading around with fake tans, an entire M.A.C. cosmetic line on their faces, and costumes reminiscent of a Burlesque show?
Despite the controversy, there are a lot of people in support or indifferent to the pictures depicted in French Vogue, and she has the Facebook following to prove it. Age aside, beauty is beauty, and requires no specific age.
In spite of negative regard or the different view points I have written, the most important thing remains uncertain: What kind of psychological effect will this have on her as she blossoms into adulthood? Many models before her have told their stories of psychological ramification the industry impacted on them. Can she handle it at such an impressionable age? After all, these are the most critical years that will mold her into the woman she will become. In a superficial society such as ours, where looks are so scrutinized, the never-ending strive for beauty can be a lot for any adult to handle. Even more so if your job depends on it. Our lifestyles and ideas have completely evolved into a way of life that was completely different from my childhood/adolescence. I think it is safe to say that children and adolescents have evolved with the times. Maybe our society has bred her to be unscathed? Only time will tell. So tell me, my fierce fashion followers: What do you have to say about our 10-year-old pictorial debutante? Until next time….

Oops…she did it again!
Going Down (hill) in Style
That’s right, my fierce fashion followers: Lindsay Lohan landed herself back in court AGAIN! This time for failing an alcohol test. Oh Lindsay…don’t you ever learn? I so wanted go back to loving you during your “Mean Girls” days. LiLo may have lost her sense of right and wrong, sense of morality, and lets not forget her sense of MIND, but thank GAWD she did not lose her sense of FASHION! She ditched her “cleavaged” courtroom past for a more conservative, “please-don’t-throw-me-in-jail” look and rocked it with flashy aviators, a Chanel handbag, and Balenciaga heels (tmz.com). Now, if only she can apply her conservative fashion selections to her decision making…stay tuned, and stay

What I’m Wearing
Down With The Brown
Welcome to the weekend, my fierce fashion followers! First of all, I want to apologize for slacking in the blog department. All I can say is that I needed to take a break. That being said, the weather has been fantastic! Time to break out the sundresses! I decided to re-vamp this tired number that I got years ago, and when I say tired…I do mean TIRED! I knew I could work my magic because I am a fashionista, and any true fashionista knows that there is power in accessorizing! All it took was one belt to take this would-be burlap sack from “not” to “HOT!” I threw on my side-zip booties to add extra edge, and I paired it with my amazing vintage bag that was my grandmother’s in the 70’s! Thanks Grandma! Enjoy the weather and as always… |

What I’m Wearing
Black & White
What a gorgeous—GORGEOUS day, my fierce fashion followers! I was especially excited because I got to debut this hot little striped number that I bought a few months ago! It has been hanging expectantly in my closet until the weather finally got nice enough to wear it without a jacket. I opted to follow in the “color block” trend by pairing it with my amazing yellow bag that I bought last week, and vamped it up with vibrant red lips. Enjoy the weekend and…

What I’m Wearing
Bronze Me Up, Scotty!
Hello, my fierce fashion followers! I hope you all had some fun this weekend. I think I had a little too much fun. In fact, I am still recovering from all the “fun” I had, hahaha. Oh well, you only ride this crazy merry-go-round once, right? I ended up going out spur of the moment. I didn’t have a thing to wear, and made a quick shopping trip in search of something—anything. I didn’t find a thing. I knew my outfit was going to require some major effort on my part, and that I would have to navigate wayyy into the deep abyss of my closet. Whatever I ended up with, I knew I was going to have to vamp up because it most likely was going to be from loooong ago. Luckily, I found this deep chocolate brown halter (circa 2003) that I completely forgot I had! I instantly knew the theme of this outfit was bronze, bronze, and MORE Bronze! Using my straightener, I created waves and teased the crown for a sexy “bedroom hair” look. Then I used my Metal Mania palette for glowing, shimmery eyes. In addition to bronzing my cheekbones, I highlighted my face using iridescent shimmer powder. My jeans even had a slight gold tint! I was planning to show you all of this, including shoes, jewelry, and a close up of the sequins on my shirt. I even had someone to take the pictures for me (for once)! Then, my luck ran out. I forgot to charge my camera and my battery died! I couldn’t believe it! These were the only ones I was able to take. Maybe one of these days, I’ll post a re-do. Maybe.

What I’m Wearing
A Glimpse of Spring…
Spring is here, my fierce fashion followers…or is it? During my stay in the UK, I’ve come to the conclusion that UK weather is a big tease. It gives me a taste of the good life, dangling the sun’s rays and blue skies around me—DARING me to get comfortable. And just when my wall of doubt begins to crack, and I start pulling my sundresses out of their storage bins…*SNATCH.* The rain taketh away. Although it is not yet time for sundresses and sandals, it is technically still spring and I am determined to display this in some way, shape, or form. My outfit may scream winter, but my makeup and accessories cry “SPRING!”

A “Write” to Know More About Me
Welcome to the weekend, my fierce fashion followers! Fash-uh-nee-stah was kind enough to tag me for a handwriting post! What is unique about this tag is that instead of typing out the answers, you have to write them! It gives the post a more personal feel, and I think it’s fun to see what everyone’s handwriting looks like. I don’t know about you, my lovelies, but in my corner of the world, the sun is shining! Pry yourselves away from your computers this weekend and enjoy yourselves! Have a fabulous couple of days and…

Farewell to a Legend
Elizabeth Taylor
1932-2011
Elizabeth Taylor, epic Screen Queen, passed away at the age of 79 from congestive heart failure. Her real life drama was as infamous as her enigmatic violet eyes, and she was not without more than her share of pain. Enduring eight walks down the aisle, four near death experiences, and numerous battles with pills and alcohol, she persevered. Today, Hollywood lost the last of its original CLASSY legends. What made Liz (a media dubbed nickname that she despised) so unforgettable was that no matter how much pain she was going through, no matter how much heartache she was enduring, she always made it a priority to look her very best. She was always immaculately dressed and adorned in jewels, which she collected with the frequency as one collects stamps. Despite all of her struggles, her poise never faltered. She was able to hold it together and project a glamorous public image, and that is what makes a true lady. In this day and age, we just don’t see that kind of poise anymore. My heart is saddened as I bid farewell to a true legend, the last of the Original Hollywood Greats. Rest in peace, Elizabeth Taylor. Your loyalty to your friends and loving heart was as rare as your beautiful eyes. You will be missed, but through your legacy, you are immortal.

Trend Alert
Orange Appeal
Making its debut in the Spring RTW collections of Prada, Jil Sander, and J Mendel (to name a few), the movement I have lovingly dubbed as “Orange Appeal,” is taking the street scene by storm in what is surely going to become a fashion epidemic this Spring Season. Whether it’s tights, clutches, skirts, or even lipstick, if you don’t have Orange Appeal this spring, you are missing out! I don’t know about you, my fierce fashion followers, but I LOVE to stand out, and I LOVE color, so you can bet your stilettos that I will be sporting orange on multiple occasions in the coming months! Have fun strutting this deliciously bold trend. I know I will!

Going Green
Hello Green Eye shadow, I Adore You!
The weekend has officially arrived, my fierce fashion followers, so please excuse my half-hearted post. You are now gazing at how I kicked off tonight’s St. Patty’s Day celebration: Green eye shadow, of course! I must confess, I do not reserve this look for only once a year. In fact, I can be spotted quite often sporting all shades of green on my lids; however, what better time to go green than in honor of St. Patty’s? Enjoy your weekend, my beautiful friends, and as always…

Fit For a Queen
Kate Middleton’s Name Literally Pays Off
***Image: msnbc.com***
According to msnbc.com, this “barely there” frock sold for a whopping 78,000 Gbp ($125,871) at auction! Why would this extreme ensemble lure in so much loot? Well, my fierce fashion followers, that is because it briefly graced the body of the already iconic, soon to be Princess! Once upon a time, way before a royal engagement, let alone DATE, Kate sported this over black underwear for a charity runway show. Not long after, her and Wills started dating. It is speculated that the sight of Kate in this dress enamored our charming Prince so much, that he had to get a date and alas, was the start of a new dynasty. Whether this tale has any merit, we’ll never know, but it does add personality to the racy dress.
The bidder is said to have been very pleased with his purchase, as he considers it a piece of history. The designer, Charlotte Todd (who is no longer a designer), expressed utter shock. She never dreamed it would have sold for such an amount. Goes to show you much fame is worth!
A hopeful bidder expressed her desire for the dress because Kate “was the quintessential good girl who used bad girl secrets to catch her prince.” Personally, I think it was a matter of being in the RIGHT DRESS at the RIGHT TIME.

What I’m Wearing
Beads and Lace
Hello, my fierce fashion followers! I decided to go “trendy/chic” for a friend’s birthday dinner. I styled my hair in the sleek, high bun that I am sooo found of, and did my makeup in a metallic, bronzy style. I threw on a lace top (that I found on sale for $6) and added this amazing black-beaded necklace that I am in love with right now. It really adds class to almost any outfit. Then, I added MC Hammer pants that are currently my new addiction, and paired it with black ankle boots. Hope you approve! |

What I’m Wearing
Wardrobe Inspiration
Hello to all my fierce fashion followers! Some of you may recognize this picture from a recent “streetstyle” post. What really struck me about this picture is this woman’s ability to look so “effortlessly beautiful.” She’s not donning a ball gown or couture. Nor is she wearing meticulously applied makeup. For one, she’s in SNEAKERS, and her hair is in a simple ponytail with shades, yet she still manages to look STUNNING. Maybe it is her bone structure which just so happens to resemble a Greek Goddess. All I know is that she is proof that you do not have to adorn yourself with the “latest and greatest” to stand out. I used this picture as my inspiration for Saturday’s look. I fashioned my hair in a purposely messy “doorknob” bun and kept my makeup light for a casual, laidback look. I added some edge by wearing a leather jacket, side-buckle ankle boots, and hipster belt. Now, for the piece de resistance….STUNNA SHADES! These 80’s shades make anyone look cool, and is the “cherry” on top of any outfit! I am really glad these are back in style and I hope they stick around for awhile. I hope I was able to re-create some of the energy of this picture. |
