Your Divine Animal Instinct

Animal prints are the latest to hit the ever-evolving fashion movement, and its impact can be viewed in all the High Street stores.  Who or what is responsible for this saucy trend?  Maybe it is Tom Ford, who, after a 6 year retirement, launched his 70’s inspired collection that had everyone thinking that he never really retired at all.  Or it could be that after spending many years on the Gaudy list, it was just...Well, it was just TIME.  Either way, I am welcoming animal prints back with open arms!
A silk, zebra print scarf tied around your neck is the perfect accessory to accompany that “ungodly bright” cashmere sweater hanging in the “don’t want to wear but don’t want to toss” section of your closet that you thought would NEVER go with anything.
For all my fashion followers who are subtly chic, slip into some open-toe leopard pumps paired with black skinny trousers.  It’s perfect for giving off the “sexy” vibe without having to display a plunging neckline.  And as always, whenever in doubt, let it hang—off your wrist.  You can never go wrong in encompassing the hottest textile trend in the form of a handbag.  Coach came out with the most adorable Madison ocelot print Maggie bag, and at only $298.00, how can you resist?  Let your inner-animal shine and adorn yourself with one of these fun and flirty prints.  Whether it be leopard, zebra, or even giraffe—you’ll be sure to turn some heads.

A Moment of Reflection

It’s Christmas Eve and I decided to take a day off from my continuous quest for all that make up the forefront of cutting-edge fashion, and take a moment to reflect on all the things I already have.  At times it may seem that nothing can make your heart pitter-patter like the buttery leather of Italian shoes or the feel of cashmere against your skin, but when it comes down to what matters, it is the presence of family.
I have a lot to be thankful for because this time last year, my brother was fighting a raging war against Leukemia.  I never felt so scared or so uncertain about anything in my life, and I have never looked the same at anything since then.  Even though I was sick with distress, I couldn’t help but realize how lucky I was.  I was almost 28-years-old when he was diagnosed, and up until that point, I had never even come close to losing anyone in my immediate circle.   Everyone dear to me is still here.  Of course I knew that death and illness were a harsh reality of life, but I never fully understood the brutal impact of everything it entails.  My brother’s illness took what youthful naivety remained and left a grim sense of mortality in its place.  As much as I sometimes long for the security I used to have, I know that it has made me a better person.
I am one of the lucky ones.  My brother made it and continues to show his resilience with each passing day.  Because of him, I fully understand that life can literally change with every breath we take and that every moment is a precious gift.  Be thankful for each day you have with the people you love most.  Hug them often.  Never hesitate to tell them that you love them.  I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a long life full of happy moments with family and friends.

Thin is IN

The time has arrived, my fabulous fashionistas.  Take the challenge; DARE to go skinny.  Thin is in, and for once, it has nothing to do with our pant size.  Skinny belts are the latest accessory in what I fondly refer to as "Return of the Simple Goddess."

Last year, the Autumn/Winter collections were all about exaggeration.  Everything had to be flashy, bold, and above all--NOTICED. This year's winter trends have reverted back to simplicity and less is definitely more.  Just like kitten heels, skinny belts have made their way back on the fashion scene.  Only this time, it is more raw and far beyond  the realms of standard dress. In addition to traditional solids, skinny belts can be found in zebra, python, and leopard, or my personal favorite: STUDDED.  Why stop at wearing just one?  Layer them!  Then, when they are weaved around your waist and the buckles are adjusted in all the right places, your waist will look like a piece of art, and I guarantee you'll be the topic of everyones conversation.

What make skinny belts so versatile is that they can be worn for any body type, even those who think they may be too short-waisted.  Sling one around your hips, add a pair of skinny jeans, your favorite shoes, and a large bag, and you'll soon be saying, "What short waist?"  Whether it be your favorite date sweater or wide-leg work trousers, slapping on a skinny belt will take you from backwood to HOLLYWOOD.

Heels Hit All-Time Low-- The Rise of The Kitten Heel

Louis Vuitton

Valentino
Attention to all those who adhere to anything fashion: The kitten heel has risen and it is the dawn of a pain-free era!  The walk of pain is no more.  Dr. Scholl's For Her High Heel Insoles are no longer our staple.  Our savior has arrived, and it is in the form of low-heeled shoes.

Kitten Heels took the Autumn/Winter 2010-11 runways by storm, and it doesn't look like this trend is going to tread away any time soon.  Valentino models graced the runway with a line of heels gorgeous enough to make any fashionista weep.  The studded straps add just the right amount of edginess to make them perfect for that slinky dress you've been saving for New Years Eve.  Who says low heels have to be conservative?  Not Valentino, that's for sure.

Louis Vuitton made an impact as well, with a line of chic shoes for those who desire a more classic look.  The sleek lines of the bow are enough to give that subtle "POW" factor, while at the same time, keeping within confines of an overall smooth silouette.  They have a timeless look that is reminiscent of Jackie'O, and looking at them gives me the urge to fasten a string of pearls around my neck. I know what the rest of you are thinking: "Hmmm..low heels.  Are they for me?"

Whether you're cutting edge or ultra-conservative, fear not!  There is a pair of kitten heels resting on a store shelf somewhere, waiting for you to give them a good home.  So, what are you waiting for--GO!  I promise your stilettos will still love you in the morning.
